Chania Botanical Gardens

One of the islands newest and most highly recommended attractions. Set in 200 square km of beautifully planted terraces you will see herbs, trees and exotic plants evolving on a daily basis in glorious surroundings and you will be accompanied on your tour by butterflies whilst seeing many species of wild birds.

Chania City

Regarded as the finest city of Crete with narrow winding streets of tastefully restored Venetian and Turkish buildings and with a port and harbour offering panoramic views. A leisurely stroll or retail therapy, whatever you prefer then Chania will not disappoint.

 

Arkadi Monastery

The 16th century monastery is set in a beautiful landscape 23km from Rethymnon. The monastery has a particular place in history dating to 1866 when under siege from Ottoman forces the 943 Cretan s who had barricaded themselves into the monastery chose to blow up their gunpowder stocks rather than surrender and this act is commemorated on 8th November each year.

Margarites Village

Also known as the Potters Village and were potters have practised their art from medieval times. You will still see potters at work and will have the opportunity to purchase unusual and distinctive items of both pottery and glassware or enjoy a drink overlooking the Cretan countryside.

Melidoni Cave

A visit to Melidoni Cave is truly a step back in time as the cave was inhabited from the Neolithic era until the late Roman period. It boasts a spectacular collection of stalactites and stalagmites and was the scene of a great tragedy in 1823. Join our tour and find out more of the history of this remarkable place.

White Mountains

The largest and most famous mountain range of the island with peaks that will often be snow covered until June. The White Mountains and the spectacular views are favoured by hikers from all parts of the world as it offers a wilderness that cannot be equalled. Get more info on kkprienai.lt

Askifou Plateau

Surrounded by the White Mountains, with breathtaking views and resembling a giant cup the plateau was originally a lake thousands of years ago. In 1821 it was also the site of a major battle and evidence of this can be seen from the small nearby fortress.

Imbros Gorge

A gorge of great natural beauty that is very much a favourite of walkers and hikers as it is less strenuous than Samaria being only 7km in length.

 

Frangokastello

Lying on the South Coast and in the shadows of the White Mountains the village features beautiful sandy beaches leading to the Libyan Sea. The waters are shallow and ideal for children and for the history buffs there are also the remains of a castle, first built in 1371.

 

Miriokefala Village

The village is home to The Monastery of Virgin Mary Antifonitria and dates from the 11th century. It is one of the most important religious shrines of Crete.

 

Agiroupoli Springs

An oasis of greenery fed by 10 natural water springs that constantly gush water and feed much of Rethymno’s water supply. Former watermills have now been converted to restaurants and tavernaswere you can sit and enjoy a drink whilst enjoying the unique scenery or perhaps you may take a few steps off the beaten trail and visit the tiny Agios Ioannis chapel set in a cave in the hillside.

Kournas Lake

This is the only freshwater lake on the island and is a protected area due to the varied species of wildlife. Lying in a valley and with a beautiful landscape it is perfect for relaxing or for the more energetic perhaps a swim or a pedalo ride on the lake. The decision is yours but you will never forget this magnificent place.

Kourtaliotis Gorge

One of the most spectacular natural attractions of the island. The gorge is 3km in length and is surrounded by huge cliffs, some as high as 600 metres. At the bottom of the gorge is the church of St. Nicholas and the Springs of Kourtaliotis and then a Palm grove as we exit to Preveli Beach.

Preveli Beach

A unique, sandy beach set with a backdrop of palm trees and also the mouth of River Kourtaliotis.

An exotic experience that should not be missed.

Preveli Monastery

The monastery which consists of two main building complexes and was founded during the Venetian period (14th/15thcentury). The Monastery has played a central role in life on the island since that period and has a fascinating history which would be impossible to summarise in this brochure. A visit is highly recommended.

Plakias

Situated on the Libyan Sea, Plakias was originally a small fishing village of 10 dwellings or less. It still derives income from the sea but it’s golden sandy beaches, fresh fish in the restaurants and Cretan sun also attract visitors seeking their perfect holidays.
